Marvelous Wiring A Two Way Light
3 way switches are useful for large rooms with multiple entrances but require a bit more wiring than a standard single pole switch.

Two way switching allows you to control a light from two locations. You should see plastic caps called wiring caps also called a wire nut with two wires running into each cap. The three terminals are usually named com l1 and l2 but sometimes com 1 way and 2 way are also used.
This is a completed circuit. The power source comes from the fixture and then connects to the power terminal. The wiring method will depend on whether your power goes to the switch first or the light first.
The electricity flows from the hot wire black through the 2 way switch shown in off position and then to the light and returns through the neutral wire white. A two way switch has 3 terminals. One wire will come from the light the other from the main electrical circuit of your house.
You will see that there is a hot wire that is then spliced through a switch and that then goes to the hot terminal of the light. This is very useful in a number places particularly hallways and stairs. Before proceeding an important component called a two way light switch is the main element of the 2 way switching irrespective of the type of wiring used.
